We currently breed Italian and Japanese/ coturnix quail. They are a medium- large sized quail and are well known for their laying capabilities. They provide an abundance of tasty green and brown speckled eggs every year and can become quite tame.

Quail need to be kept in a secure pen as they live out at all times (i.e they are not put away at night), so it must be rat and other predator proof. They should have a clean, dry enviroment away from prevailing winds. They are quite quiet, with the females and males making small chirping noises and the males making an occasional chirruping sound during the breeding season. Quail live 2-3 years on average.

Eggs are £2.50 per dozen (both hatching and eating eggs)

Female quail: £6.50 each

Males: £3 each

Our quail are aviary kept,  fed chick crumb, water with a vitamin supplement and a purpose made dust bath containing "volcanic" sand mixed with anti-louse/ mite powders to keep them free of creepy crawlies.
